Prepare your child for school.
Today our new Reception parents met to talk about their child starting school. They made a thought bag for their children to help prepare them for their move into Reception class.

The children are going to bring their thought bags into school when they have their first visit with written thought about coming into school. Hopefully we will be able to put any of the children's concerns about starting school.
See the gallery for the rest of the pictures. Keep a look out on the school TV. You might just see your pictures on there too!

Disney movie magic.
Crookhill were in for a treat this morning as they were transported to the Magic Kingdom to listen to the Music Workshop perform music from some of the greatest Disney movies. We were given clues about the movies ranging from Snow White which was the 1st feature length film to come out of Disney Studios to a finale of Toy Story.
In true Crookhill spirit we joined in and even got to sing into the microphone.
Some of us were dressed as characters from the film. Can you tell which Disney Movie we are from?
If you look closely you will see Bashful, Sleepy, Happy and Grumpy. Can you tell who is who??? We played our parts well.
The whole school (especially the teachers) thoroughly enjoyed being whisked away into the magical world of Walt Disney. We can't wait for the music workshop to come back again!

Building Dens in the Forest School
The children had a great time in the forest school today. We collected sticks to build our den and for the fire. The children enjoyed cooking the marshmallows on the fire but don't worry Mams I never left them while cooking on the fire!

Forest school in Reception
Today Reception had a visit from Richard Wood and Audrey. We all went down to the field to check on the campsite the children helped to make when they were in Nursery. The strong winds meant that there had been some damage to the fence so we had to fix it. We collected lots of branches from our school field.
Some of the children thought that the wind would have blown all the fairy houses away, so some of us built some new ones.
This afternoon we found some digger tracks on the swampy hill. Richard got lots of buckets of water and we poured water down the tracks to see what would happen. When the water got stuck we used sticks to make a new channel.
Water + soil + Reception children =
A welly boot getting stuck in the mud! Can you see the boot?
We had a fantastic day despite the rainy windy weather. We can't wait to get back out there next week.

Forest school feast!
As part of the forest school training Miss Brown and Mrs Murray have had to prepare and cook a meal on the campfire for the staff of Crookhill. The requirements were, we could cook what we liked but there had to be 3 courses involved.
Our menu...
Starter
Chappati and dips
Main
Vege kebabs and toasties
Dessert
Bananas stuffed with sugar and chocolate
and
Toasted marshmallow sandwiches.
We also had to train the staff how to use a Bow saw and a bill hook. Mrs Bainbridge was very adventurous and used her new skills to make a mallet.
Take a look in the gallery at the rest of our snaps.

Prepare your child for school!
It's almost the end of the school year. Can you believe it? Over the past few weeks we have invited parents of new Reception children into school to support them with this new phase of their child's life.
Parents have been invited into school to talk about any concerns, worries, thoughts they may have about school and to make some things for their child to bring to school on their transition days.
The first thing we made was a 'thought bag'. The idea of the thought bag is for children to talk about any worries they have about starting school. I think it is fair to say that the parents really enjoyed making the bags out of our fabulous Crookhill T - towels.
The second session was about sharing the interests of our children. Miss Brown has learned lots about the children's favourite foods, toys, songs and games. We made boxes for our children for them to put in their favourite things.
We would like to say a big thank you to all the parents who attended. See you next Monday for the final meeting.
