Stowell Street.
Today Reception and Year 6 visited Stowell Street for a Chinese banquet. Both classes have been learning all about China and Chinese New Year. We went to Lau's Buffet King to sample some delicious Chinese cuisine.
The staff in the restaurant were really impressed by our fantastic behaviour and attitude to trying new things.
Can you believe some of us had more than 3 plates of food and then pudding?
Some of us were very brave and tried to eat using the chop sticks.
The year 6 children were great and helped the Reception children to fill and re-fill their plates.
After our delicious banquet we went into the Chinese Supermarket to buy some decorations for our classrooms and to take home.
Take a look in the gallery for the rest of our photos.

Class Six Gibside Residential
This week Class Six went on their residential trip to Gibside! We left school on Wednesday morning and headed to Whickham Thorns for an adventure packed day including high ropes, snow tubing, archery and an assault course.
Everyone was really brave for having a go on the high ropes course - it took lots of determination to get right to the top.
Snow tubing was great fun! We experimented with different ways of coming down the slope, including 'fast and furious', 'big spinning circle' and 'backwards in pairs'.
Archery was great fun - we had a competition to see who had the best aim - watch out Robin Hood!

The rain didn't put us off too much, but there were some very muddy shoes after the assault course!
After Whickham Thorns we traveled up to Gibside. We unpacked and settled into our dormitories. Some of use were already quite tired and had a little rest before tea!
We enjoyed a delicious Shepherd's Pie and fruit and ice cream before heading out on a Nature Walk around the beautiful Gibside estate.
We returned to The Stables for hot chocolate and then headed to best after an exhausting day. Some of us even got some sleep!
See the Gallery for more photographs.

Crookhill Fooball Team
Watch out South Africa, Crookhill has a football team to rival any of those at the World Cup!
On Tuesday night our team played Emmaville. The first goal was scored by Bethany - the first girl to score a goal in the league! This was followed by two goals from Liam, then one from Bradley and James made it five.
It was a really exciting match with end to end action, Emmaville played well but Crookhill were victorious scoring 5 goals to 4. Well done to everyone involved. It was a fabulous team effort. A special well done to all the goal scorers and to James, who was our man of the match!

Shadow Puppet Theatre
As part of our China Topic, Class Six have created some wonderful Shadow Puppet Theatres.
We read the ancient Chinese Myth about the Four Dragons, who become the four great rivers of China. We then changed this into a playscript to perform in the puppet theatres.
We added some Chinese themed music and decorated the theatres using ancient symbols. Look at us below - giving away all the secrets of our performance!
Class three and Recpetion really enjoyed our performance!

Maths Week in Class Six!
Class Six had an excellent time during maths week...
On Monday we were taught by Mr McCallion - he had us looking for ways to make any non-prime numbers between 1-99 using ONLY prime numbers - tricky stuff!
On Tuesday we did a Maths Trail around school and made our very own Towers of Hanoi. This is a very ancient puzzle that needs lots of logical thinking!
On Wednesday (World Maths Day!) we became magicians and performed an amazing trck with a cube net! In the afternoon KS2 enjoyed a game of Countdown - with Mr Campbell and Mr Connelly from Ryton Comprehensive and our very own Liam Kelly as Team Captains!
Then we were entertained by Dr. Mark and some magical maths!
On Thursday we found out all about Pythagoras' Theorem a2 + b2 = c2. We went onto the yard to meet some of the builders from the building project and found out how they use this to make sure they don't build wonky walls!
Who guessed the 90 degree angle the most accurately?!
On Friday we had a trip to the Centre for Life in
We also learned how spies use Maths...
Phew! What a week! Class Six had a great time learning about maths in lots of different ways!
Please see the Gallery for all the photographs from this exciting week.

Best Buddies
Class Six are playground buddies and in PE and PSHE we have been evaluating playground games. We have been 'testing' games to see which ones are best for different ages, easy to organise and can involve lots of children. We have also created our own games. Look out for Class Six's games at playtime.
Deniel and Reece made up a game called Target. Get the basketball through the hoop and hit the cone underneath to score a point.
This game is called Zombie Attack!!
Where's the Spot? really hits the spot - a fab game for everyone.
Surf's Up is a tricky one!
Super Science in Class Six
This term our science topic is interdependence and adaptation. Mr. Campbell from Ryton Comprehensive teaches us every Wednesday afternoon. We have had loads of fun activities to do.
In our first lesson we took cuttings from a plant and created our own mini greenhouses.
We have been learning about food chains - we made our own using art materials. We created some fabulous display work. It was a messy afternoon!!
We found out how to make sorting keys. We made our own so visitors to Class Six can identify the strange creatures that inhabit our classroom!
We have also been learning why plants have roots. We created actions to go with different roots so we would be able to remember them.
A fascicled root
A buttress root
