Karate Day

Today, we enjoyed taking part in a karate session with Sensei Phil and Sensei Lee. We learned how karate can be used in self defence and learned some simple moves. We loved moving like little ninjas, following the instructions and performing their routines. Well done Year 1!

DT - Smoothie Making

🍌 🍓 Year 1 DT - This afternoon we were very excited to make our smoothies after we tasted and chose our ingredients yesterday. We worked successfully in small groups to prepare and blend our chosen fruits before we were able to have a taste! Well done Year 1 🌟

🌟Year 1 - In Science this afternoon we continued our Animals including humans topic where we explored the tongue and taste. We understood that our tongue allows us to taste and the little bumps are our taste buds. Our task was to taste different foods and describe how each one tasted. We described some of our foods as sweet, salty and bitter! 👅

🌲 Year 1 Festivals of Light - This afternoon we learnt about The Advent Wreath, a Christian tradition which symbolises the four weeks of Advent before creating our own! Great work Year 1🌲

Year of the Snake

We learnt all about the Lunar New Year this week and found out that this year is the year of the snake. This afternoon we made our very own paper chain snakes and completed a year of the snake colouring sheet. 🐍

In ICT we have been learning about digital painting. This week we were able to use different tools to create a piece of work in the style of Kandinsky.

Geography

🍂 Year 1 Geography - This afternoon we looked at the seasons, we were able to name all four and describe some of the changes that occur. We spent some time outside using our school grounds to investigate the current season by collecting seasonal objects and creating a journey stick. We can’t wait to repeat this activity for Spring and Summer to see how our journey stick will change! 🍂

DT Smoothie Ingredient Tasting

In DT, we tasted a selection of potential fruit and vegetable smoothie ingredients. We were able to describe their appearance, smell and taste! Next lesson we will be deciding on which we are going to include in our smoothies.

Anti-Bullying Week

As a class we have discussed this year’s theme of respect and how we can ‘choose respect’. As part of this week we have supported Odd Sock Day and World Kindness Day, where we designed our own odd socks and made pots of kindness to show the ways in which we can be be kind to others!
